Nude Photos of TV Doctor Vince Edwards

Baby Boomer kids are familiar with Vince Edwards from Ben Casey (1961-1966), and their parents, with his many beefcake roles of the 1950s, such as Mr. Universe (1951) and Hiawatha (1952).

There's no evidence that he posed for gay physique magazines like Physique Pictorial, but there are nude photos of a young Vince Edwards floating around the internet.

He's around 20 here, so it's about 1948, when Vince was studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts   A classical Greek pose like you would see in physique magazines,  but there was no full nudity in print at the time.  This must have been a private photo shoot.

Older here, and bulked up, probably early 1950s, after he moved to Los Angeles.

Was he a member or hanger-on of the Hollywood gay scene?

Nude Photos of John Manning and His Beefcake Brothers

Here are some nude photos of 1950s Physique Pictorial model John Manning and at least one of his brothers.

A standard 1960s studio shot of John, emphasizing his plus-size penis.

John as an Indian, a rare color photo by Bruce of Los Angeles.

John and his regular co-model James Selig.

John on the left, and the guy on the right is reputedly his brother Jim.

More Joy of Abs

If you have well-developed abs, you can skip the pec and delt exercises.  You have it all.

Ok, not really, but abs do work on your posture, strength, stamina, cardiovascular vitness, and overall health.  But you're turning heads, regardless of what you're packing.

Plus they're so hard to work on that they're more emblematic of physical fitness than the much easier muscles of the chest and shoulders.   It's the abs  that get masculine heads to turn at the beach.

If you saw this guy on Grindr, would you really ask for a cock pic before sealing the deal?

Ok, bad example, he has a beautiful face, too.

Take this guy: kind of a dorky expression and weird hair, but I'm still inviting him over, due to his precision-cut eight-pack.

Abs: A Man's Third Best Feature

Big pecs and biceps are the stars of the male physique, but abs are a close third.  They're much harder to develop, not about size but about definition, so they're the signature of the well-developed man.

There are actually four sets of muscles on the trunk:
The rectus abdominus in the front, which give you the "xylophone" effect
The serratus on the upper sides, which connect the abdomen and the pecs.
The transverse abdominus
The obliques on the lower sides, the biggest of the abdominal muscles.

Everybody tries crunches and sit-ups for their abs, but they are almost impossible to do effectively.  I suggest the plank (reverse push-up) and side twists.

And cardio: since abs are a matter of definition rather than bulk, you need to get your body fat down.

The definition is most noticeable when the abs are hairless.

But hairy abs have a charm of their own.

A thin line of hair going down the abdominal ridge is called a "glory trail," since it draws the eye to the crotch.  Charlie McDermott made the glory trail famous by displaying his in nearly every episode of The Middle.

Searching for 1968 Physique Pioneer Mike O'Donnell

I was asked to check if anyone knows the name of this model, who did nude physique portraits in the 1960s.  He appears under the stage name Mike O'Donnell.

Most of the models from that era were amateurs, whatever trick the photographer happened to invite home last night, or saw on the street and asked "Do you want to make a few bucks?"  Their careers began and ended in anonymity.

But Mike O'Donnell seems to have appeared in several publications over a period of years:

J. Brian Presents Rick's Tricks of 1968 (Rick Dion Studios)
Galerie Golden Spurs
Rick Dion's Ephemera
The Phallus
Tiger (aka Tiger Man)

The tattoo on his left forearm looks like a scale with three lines over it. Tattoos were rare in 1968, unless you were in the navy.

That uncut cock is rare for Americans of the Baby Boomer generation.

He's not very muscular.  That's a 30-pound dumbbell, and he needs two hands to lift it.

He was living in Portland in 1968.

He's reading a straight porn magazine, so he's straight, or at least that's the impression the photographer wants to give.

He looks a little younger in this black-and-white photo. Probably from 1966 or 1967.

They only had nude photos in physique magazines beginning around 1965, so this twink was an innovator.

That's all I know, except that Rick Dion was publishing out of Portland, Oregon.  Box 73 at the One Institute Gay Archives contains some samples of his models: Rene, Race, Tuck, Scott, Pete, Gary, Rod, Kurt, Jack, Cy, Randy, Shannon, Mike, Lee, Pete Shea.

And Tiger Man was published in L.A.

And there's a buffed Bollywood actor named Tiger Schroff.

Dig the old-fashioned telephone.

There's a Michael O'Donnell at Rockefeller University, who got his B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Portland in 1975.  Around the same time, and he has the same jaw.  Connection?

Probably not.  I imagine that this well-endowed young ex-sailor vanished into the youth counterculture without giving anyone his real name.

Anybody know who he is?

10 Thing You Should Know About Dating Bodybuilders

Lately I've been getting a lot of soft, slim twinks, but when I lived in gay neighborhoods,  I was heavily invested in the bodybuilding subculture, and more than one bodybuilder ended up in my bed, as a date or a hookup.

Here are some tips on how to meet, date, and hookup with a bodybuilder.

1. There aren't a lot around

Many people lift weights -- strength training is an essential component of physical fitness.  A small percentage, maybe about a third of the guys at the campus gym and a tenth of the guys at the YMCA, get some mass and definition, through dedication, proper form, and genetics.

But the bodybuilder is striving for competitive-quality muscle size, definition, and symmetry.  There are three or four who work out at the campus gym, and maybe two at the YMCA.

2. But they are available

Bodybuilders spend their lives being touched, fondled, judged, evaluated, looked at, and lusted at by other men.  A few are homophobic, but the majority have no qualms about getting down with a guy, even if they prefer women for romance.

3. Most are in their 20s and 30s.

Teenagers typically lack the time and stamina for bodybuilding, and after 40, you're fighting an uphill battle.  Muscle doesn't turn to fat -- that's a myth -- but as your metabolism and activity level decline, if you don't watch your eating habits, you will add fat.  Many former bodybuilders are pleasantly plump in their 50s and 60s.

4. You need to be knowledgeable.

They have devoted their lives to learning how the body works, how the muscle groups can be trained, how to achieve their optimal mass and definition.  If you don't know anything about muscles except that they're pretty, you will be unlikely to catch their attention, and if you do, you'll have nothing to talk about on your date.

5. You need another selling point.

They talk about muscles and fitness all day.  While you should be knowledgeable, you must have another selling point, something that makes you stand out in the crowd: a face, a penis, a sense of humor, creative or intellectual accomplishments.  I go with celebrity hookup stories or being multi-lingual.

Nude Photos of Helmut Riedmeier

These are nude photos of bodybuilder and physique model Helmut Riedmeier (1944-), mostly taken in London in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Early in his career.  Notice the 1950s "greaser" look, rather out of date in Swinging Sixties London.

A little later in the same shoot.

He didn't do any actual sex scenes, but there was some homoerotic buddy bonding.

A couple of years later, in the mid 1970s.

Same photo shoot, aroused this time.  He's one of those guys who are the about the same size aroused.

Warning: Explicit Beauty Ahead

When every guy with a cell phone posts nude selfies on the internet, there are thousands of fabulous faces, sculpted physiques, and gigantic penises on display every time you boot up your computer.

Some photos stand out from the crowd by paying pay special attention to background, light, color, and composition, display some striking emotion, provide a backstory.  Others add a single tiny detail that transforms the photo from merely depicting a cute guy to being beautiful in itself.

1. The pale sculpted physique is offset by the dark checkered shirt and hat, and the cock and balls are offset by the jeans.  But it's the food cooking on the stove that give this photo a lifelike, homey feel: it's a moment of real life.  Dinner is almost ready.

2. Ok, some nicely rounded muscles, and two hands on his enormous uncut penis.  You expect a bragging smirk, or at least a cruisy smile, but this guy's expression is soft and vulnerable, his head against a soft beige pillow.  He's worried that he won't meet your expectations.

3. Slim backside, scruffy hair, aroused penis almost hidden.  What makes this photo is the bright hippie-graffiti  that fills the wall and reflects the multi-colored blanket.  This is a hipster just waking up after a long night of jazz music, Beat poety, and discussions of the meaninglessness of life.

4. Sculpted physique, flawless skin glowing in strong light, jeans drawn down just enough to suggest that they're about to fall off.  The gold watch draws attention to the hands.  Blurry urban background suggest the dangers and delights of the street.

5.  I love photos where the aroused penis stands tall, taking up half of the frame, but this photo adds to its intrigue by displaying the guy's jarhead and khaki shirt and belt.  He must be in the military.  There's a poster showing a tropical beach over his shoulder: he's looking for an escape, a "good place."
