Sausage Sightings of the Entire Male Cast of "Good Times"

When I was going to the Holiday Spa on LaBrea in Hollywood, I saw a lot of celebrities, or at least recognizable stars, like Peter Scolari and Tom Villard.  John Amos of Good Times and Roots was a regular.

He was fired from Good Times because he was vocal in his criticism of the direction the show was taking, Blacksploitation  jive turkeys and "dyn-o-mite!" rather than African-American struggles, hopes, and plans for the future.  But apparently he stayed in close contact with some of his co-stars, and they often came to the Holiday Spa to work out with him, giving me an opportunity for celebrity sausage sightings.

1. I had a big crush on Ralph Carter (born 1961), who played the angry young radical Michael.  I especially liked the scenes where he and his brother J.J. (Jimmie Walker) were shown sharing a bed.  So when he appeared with John Amos at the Holiday Spa in 1988, I could barely restrain my gawking.  Slim tight physique, small firm biceps, very thick Bratwurst.

2. Jimmie Walker (left) was a regular at the gym, but he never interacted with Amos.  I don't think they liked each other, and with good reason.  The guy was a jerk, hogging machines, not wiping up his pools of sweat, taking 20-minute showers when guys were waiting in line.  He's still a jerk, ultra-conservative, hawkish, homophobic, supporting the white supremacist in the White House.

Do you really want to know how big it is?

3. Ben Powers (1950-2015), who played Thelma's husband Keith, was not even on Good Times as the same time as John Amos, but they still apparently met and became friends  They worked out together frequently in the late 1980s.   Very buffed physique, thick biceps, washboard abs, cut Mortadella.

Ben was also a regular at Jewel's Catch One, the gay black bar.  I don't know if he was gay or bisexual.

4. Josh Milrad  (born 1968) starred with John Amos in the sword-and-sorcery classic Beastmaster (1982).  Friends saw them at the gym together several times in 1987 and 1988.  A cute twink, a little chunky, but sporting a semi in the sauna.  Gigantic (top photo).

  1. On I Love the 80s, John Amos mentioned being invited to leather parties after Beastmaster. I thought it was just snark. The more you know.
